Please remember: Friday, November 19 is an "All hands on deck" day at the tree lot (Monaco and Iliff) We will start setting up immediately after the meeting. Be there!
VETERANS DAY
How many veterans do you know who can still fit in their 1960 vintage uniform. Eldon Strong is one! Thanks to all who have served our country!
Greeters

The sun was up at the start of our Friday meeting - a welcome sight!  Also welcoming the men of Monaco South were Jim Svenson and Dave Peck, our official greeters.

President Tom Kramis asked Mark Metevia to deliver our invocation.  Mark shared a theme of thanks and remembrance for those who served in our Armed Forces during this week of Veterans Day.  He then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

THANKSGIVING BASKETS
Jim Easton and Allen Pierce let us know that at 8:00 am on Saturday morning 11/20 the Thanksgiving baskets will be assembled and delivered.  Please meet in the Safeway parking lot (Monaco and Yale) for pickup.  Get in line and stay in your car to get your baskets and assignment, then pull over and park to visit and share a donut.  Invite your family and friends!  It is a good way to introduce them to Optimism

Michael Chavez asked for help on Thursday 11/18.  He’s looking for 7-8 people to held loading a truck for Thanksgiving baskets for the Boys and Girls club.  If available, please join Michael at 1:00 pm at the Safeway at Monaco and Yale.  There are 50 baskets in total - many hands make light work!  Let Michael know if you will be there.

CHRISTMAS TOYS

Tom Mauro is working on toys to go along with the Christmas baskets we deliver.  He started early and is in good shape - but if you have any new, not used, items that you want to contribute,  get them to Tom.

Tom also said that the Excellence in Education, which was suspended last year, will restart in the spring.  Super Citizen reps, if you can get into the schools and learn of a teacher that deserves recognition let Tom know.

King Soopers Logo Vector
Frank Middleton reports that the King Soopers gift card program brought in $400 for the club last quarter!  Sign up if you haven’t yet - Frank can help.
SUPER CITIZEN- BRADLEY ELEMENTARY

Robert Wardlaw followed up on last week’s Zoom Super Citizen presentation at Lowry Elementary.  School reps who haven’t had luck getting into their school can consider suggesting a virtual presentation instead. Shown here is a picture of Super Citizen program which was held on the playground of Bradley Elementary with Jon Wachter and Andy Towt in attendance

OI FOUNDATION (DIME-A-DAY)
Pat Bush made a Dime a Day announcement on Andy Towt’s behalf.  Inflation has not impacted Dime a Day - it is still only 10 cents!  What a bargain.  If you haven’t made your contribution this year, please do - Pat will accept checks - they should be made payable to the OI Foundation
WELL DESERVED HONOR
Bob Avery announced that he was surprised Jack Kleinheksel was not in attendance for last week’s speaker from the Denver Area Boy Scouts.  So he followed up with Jack and learned that he was out of town, receiving a lifetime achievement award from his law school!  What a tremendous honor Jack!  Here is a note from the school:
“The award is made by the Washburn University School of Law Alumni Association.  The Lifetime Achievement Award is made to graduates "... whose careers have been highly distinguished
and whose achievements and contributions are widely recognized as significant and outstanding in their fields of endeavor”.
Very impressive!  More details and a handsome photo of Jack can be found at:

CHRISTMAS TREE LOT NEWS

With no guest speaker today, President Tom led a conversation around updates for the ChrisTmas Tree Lot this year.  In no particular order:
*      Day managers are needed for Tuesday and Friday.
*      The hours this years will be 10 am - 8 pm, and there will be four 2 1/2 hour shifts per day.
*      Ed Collins is taking over for Ron Cisco to man the commissary.  There is no truth to the rumor that Ed will be providing only vegan food items.
*      The trailer will arrive at the lot next Friday the 19th.  Set up will begin either Friday or Saturday.
*      The schedule is up!  Go to msocxmas.org to sign up for shifts on the lot or as a cashier.
*      We will have drive through service again this year, plus the double door system for the trailer, with window ordering service available.
*      No Santa Claus this year.
*      A friend of Gary Miller’s at Haselton is providing the generator and fuel again.
*      Mike Webb will put in electrical and wire everything up.
*      We will need everyone’s help to have a bounce-back year on the lot.  Last year only 900 trees were sold so we expect to do much better.
*      Greg Young will provide cashier training at next week’s meeting.

DRAWING  $80 resides in the pot, and the magic card for today was the 4 of Hearts
Chris Dunphy and Phil (PP) Perington boldly tried their luck to score the $80, but alas, it was not in the cards for them.
Cold cups of cash went to:
Mark Metevia
Bob Avery
Gary Strowbridge
Bryce Slaby
Pat Bush
Dick Nickoloff

Nametag - The Right Honorable Dr. Robert Finkelmeier’s name was drawn by President Tom, and he was properly identified with his tag.  No luck on the draw however, and the pot thickens…

Creed:  Our Optimist Creed was led today by Past President and all-around good guy Jim Easton: “Promise Yourself…”

HELPFUL HINTS TO STOP SCAMMING
Scam GIFs | Tenor

You see a post about making easy money. Scammers ask for your debit card and PIN
or mobile banking username and password to deposit a fake check into your account
They may ask you to report your card lost or stolen or that your credentials have
been compromised in order to seek reimbursement from the bank. In exchange,
scammers may promise you a portion of the funds you deposit.
Phishing is the fraudulent attempt to obtain sensitive information, such as
usernames, passwords, and account details, typically through an email, text
message, or even a phone call. These messages may impersonate a company,
charity, or government agency and often make up an urgent request to convince you
to sign on to a fake site, open an email attachment containing malware, or respond
with personal or account information. The information you provide can be used to
commit identity theft or access your account to steal money. If you receive a
suspicious email or text message, don’t respond, click any links, or open
attachments. Don’t sign on to ANY account from a link in a suspicious message.
You receive a phone call, email, or letter stating you have won a lottery or
sweepstakes or purchased an item or renewed a subscription that you don’t own,
Scammers require you to pay a fee to receive the prize to avoid taxes or additional
fees or may even threaten to report you to the IRS or police if you don’t make the
requested payment.
Scammers use online dating sites, social networks, and chat rooms to meet potential
victims. They create fake profiles to build online relationships and eventually request
you send money due to a hardship.
Tip
: Do not give personal information, account numbers, or credit card information to someone you recently met online.
VIRUS/RANSOMWARE You unknowingly download a type of malicious software to
your computer. This software is designed to block access to your operating system
and all the information stored on your PC until you pay a sum of money to an online
criminal.
Tip:
Install good scam blocker like ESET or MALWAREBYTES.
Back up your data regularly by syncing your files to a secure external drive or backup service such as cloud storage.

T H E O P T I M I S T C R E E D — Promise Yourself . . . To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for
anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
