HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Thehousing affordability crisis in the U.S., driven largely by a shortage of affordable entry-level housing and rising prices, is disproportionately impacting the most vulnerable groups — households of color and low- to moderate-income households. Habitat does not give away houses; instead, future homeowners partner with local affiliates and volunteers to build or rehabilitate a home and pay an affordable mortgage.
This Reported by Kevin:
These are photos taken today at the Habitat for Humanity site at Augustana Lutheran. Tom Glazier, Michael Chavez, Bryce Slaby, Matt Dollarhide, and I were the team from Monaco South,
The team did a great job installing windows on two of the eight units, especially Tom Glazier and Michael Chavez who did extra duty climbing up ladders to the second story windows!
MEMBER NEWS
Mike White tells us the Gary Strowbridge has been at Swedish Hospital for the last 2 weeks and is recovering from an infection resulting from a dental procedure. He is hoping to be moved to a rehabilitation facility soon, and has lost 10 lbs due to the illness. Best wishes for a full recovery Gary.
Bryce Slaby is glad to be here, he was in the hospital for 3 days. Bryce is an ex-fireman and ignored symptoms he was experiencing. Tongue numbness, fingertips lost feeling, for 3 days they did tests. He knew the symptoms but didn’t pay attention. He had what is known as a mini stroke, and he was having them every few minutes. A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a short period of symptoms similar to those of a stroke. It's caused by a brief blockage of blood flow to the brain. A TIA usually lasts only a few minutes and doesn't cause long-term damage. However, a TIA may be a warning. About 1 in 3 people who have a TIA event will eventually have a stroke, with about half occurring within a year after the TIA. The “window” tells us you have 4 hours to get to the hospital so they can help you. Pay attention to yourself and what your body is doing. Harry tells us he had TIA as well and just received his diploma for completing the cardio portion of his recovery.
Phil Perington tells us Tom Kramis had someone break into his truck, open his garage door and ransack his tools last night. There are bad people out there doing bad things. So be careful.
Today is Camaraderie Day, Frank Middleton takes a few minutes to talk about membership. From last year, Matt Dollarhide, Kevin Dempsey, Zeb Danesh, Gary Germain, John Burnett, Steve Cole, Patrick Dempsey, Bob Halvorson, have joined the club as new members and many thanks to members who invited them to our meetings. Frank wants to review why we need new members. Without these new members we are lagging as a growing club. As of today, we are all members of the membership committee. With that we have a project regarding where it is we can find new members. Frank asks us to use the paper he has placed on our table, to list the possible opportunities to invite potential new members to our meetings. George Buzick stands up and gives us a snapshot of how the numbers look for Optimist Clubs in the District and the numbers are sobering.
DRAWING
Do we have a drawing? $30 in the pot, and 51 cards, 7 of Diamonds is the lucky card this morning.
Denny Dressman wins the 1st cup. Ken Jeung takes a cup, Jim Svenson takes a cup, Don Thomson takes a cup, Patrick Morgan takes a cup, Tom Glazier wants to draw. Tom Hoch takes a cup, Pat Bush draws a card.
Pat Bush’s name is drawn out of the plastic jug and draws a card. He is not successful. We recite the Creed and go forward to spread Optimism.
Meetings will be held at the American Legion Hall 5400 E Yale Ave. While there be no two way communication, you may observe (and listen to) the meeting on Zoom
PLEASE NOTE: Some Friday meetings will be simulcast on Zoom in “listen and watch only” mode. All members are encouraged to attend the live meeting when possible.

T H E O P T I M I S T C R E E D — Promise Yourself . . . .
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. T
o forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
