GOODBYE TO PETER DIMOND
Peter Dimond, who joined our club in September of 1992 and was President in 1997-1998 announced his moving to  Goodyear Arizona to take advantage of a new business opportunity and to be closer to his wife Karla's family. Peter has been a car salesman and is currently a mortgage broker. Peter will be returning to Colorado periodically and promises to visit the club when the opportunity presents itself.  Thanks for all you have done for the club and good luck in Arizona!

TRIBMember pictureUTE TO DONLIE SMITH
For a complete obituary, please visit
http://www.horancares.com/obituary/Donlie-Smith.Today, several members shared memories of Donlie Smith, who joined the club in January of 1991 and was  President in 2005-2006. Several members, including Tom Overton and Phil Perington talked about Donlie's Scouting activities and how he was instrumental in recognizing Eagle Scouts. Bryce Slaby remembers Donlie as  a caring individual who used his knowledge to help Bryce obtain an SBA loan when nobody else seemed to care. Don Thomson said he met Donlie through the Rotary Club and knew he was a special kind of person. Ron Cisco talked about Donlie's part in making the Heather Gardens Ice Cream Social a huge money maker. Mike White said he was surprised to find that Donlie was a hang glider instructor. Phil Perington said that in speaking to Donlie recently, Donlie said he was "sick and tired of machines", but never lost his sense of humor.  He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life/Open House is scheduled for Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 1-3pm at the Heather Gardens Clubhouse located at 2888 S. Heather Gardens Way, Aurora, CO 80014.  Please stop by the Aspen Room anytime between 1-3pm to share memories. Food and drink will be provided.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in honor of Donlie to one of his favorite service organizations such as Boy Scouts, Optimists, or Boys and Girls Club.

OPTIMIST CREED

Dan Rodriguez presented an Optimist Creed poster that he designed at the suggestion of Mark Metevia.
Mark proposes to post copies of the creed in all of the schools who participate in the Super Citizen Program and, perhaps other schools with whom the club has contact. A great idea, since the Creed is such a good representation of what we stand for as Optimists.

LAST REMINDER BUDGETS FOR THE NEW YEAR: GET ‘EM IN!!

white Casio calculator
Our new Optimist year is fast approaching, and in preparation for a great year your team for next year is preparing budgets.  If you are doing a project, please let Pat Bush, Tom Kramis or Greg Young know your budget request.  These need to be in by September 20th as the budget will be finalized by the end of September.  If possible, budgets should be kept to a minimum as we expect another short tree lot season due to supplier shortages.

DRAWING

With only 2 cards in the deck and just $20 at stake, the drawing did not last long. Tom Mauro took the first shot, but failed to draw the 8 of hearts. Don Thomson pulled the 8 and grabbed the $20. Next week, 1 card worth $10. You can't win if you don't play!

T H E O P T I M I S T C R E E D — Promise Yourself . . . To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for
anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
