Condolences to Michael Chavez, whose sister died this past Thursday night. In spite of this Michael was at the meeting on Friday morning and helped throughout the weekend at the tree lot. Thankyou Michael and may God be with your sister.

Just the slightest bit of snowfall was falling on a brisk Friday morning, November 19th, 2021.  Tom Mauro stood tall as the lone greeter, enthusiastically offering warm greetings to all.
President Tom Kramis asked Joe Marci to deliver our invocation.  Joe reminded us that good deeds we perform are like pebbles thrown into a pond.  We may not see the full results of these efforts, yet the ripples can grow and the eventual outcome can be like that of a boulder creating powerful waves.  He then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Breakfast from Cafe du France was ham and cheese croissants with potatoes and fruit.  Noel Hasselgren was busy collecting payments and many men seemed to enjoy their meals.

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION

President Tom Kramis presided as new members (left to right) Ken Jeung, Jeff Wilson and Matt Nelson were officially brought into the fold.   The sponsors of these men, Phil Perington and Kent Gloor (with Steve Kady on Zoom) stood proudly alongside the inductees as they stated their intentions to be members of our club (and to lift Christmas trees!).  Welcome Jeff, Matt and Ken!
ANNOUNCEMENTS

Pat Bush, our esteemed treasurer, reminded us to pay your dues!  If you haven’t yet, you can still get a $5 discount if you submit payment by the end of month.

Joe Marci says that the Super Citizen presentation is coming up at Most Precious Blood on Friday, November 26th.  He needs the help of a photographer and a presenter.  Please reach out to Joe if you can help.

Frank Middleton asks the crowd:  Did you know you can support the club while buying your groceries?  If not, ask Frank for details on the King Soopers gift card program.

Phil Perington grabbed the mic and said thanks to all of the men attending today’s meeting via Zoom.  He reminded us that we are still on line with Zoom, so keep that in mind as you are inviting guests to check out our club.

Jon Wachter reported on a successful Super Citizen presentation at Bradley Elementary yesterday.  Andy Towt and Jon helped recognize 12 students.  Bradley has now honored 36 students this school year.
Michael Chavez wanted to say “Thanks!” to the men who helped with successfully delivering Thanksgiving baskets to Girls Inc. and the Boys and Girls Club.  The team of helpers included: Noel Hasselgren, Greg Young, Don Roth, Brian Williams, David Telpner, Ed Collins, George Buzick, Joe Marci, Ken Jeung, Tom Hoch and Greg Holt.
All things Christmas Tree Lot:
(Editors note: Thanks to all who submitted pictures (Phil Perington, Craig Eley, Steve Kady. There were too many to use all of them in one issue. You will probably be seeing some in future issues.)

President Kramis says things are shaping up for our tree lot season.  We are still in need of one more day lot manager to handle Fridays with Joe Marci, so let Tom know.

Tom said thanks to Steve Kady for securing barricades and the VMS (variable messaging sign).  Steve also arranged for a port-a-pot for our use and customer use also.  The combination lock code for the port-a-pot is M - T - A, but it will be unlocked during business hours.  There will still be the bathroom in Suite 100 of the strip mall. 1850 is the combination for access to that suite.

Tom also said thanks to Phil Perington for getting a dumpster for the lot.

1,525 is the number of trees we will have to sell.  That number includes some silver-tipped Nobles, which are a premium variety.

Jon Wachter is going to run the Chili cook off this season, and is targeting Sunday, December 19th.  More details to come.

Tom then turned the microphone over to our speaker today, our own Greg Young. Greg shared via power point and by sharing his screen how to sign up for your shift.  Each member should set a goal of a minimum of five shifts during the season.  Everything you need is at:

Note that if you have a last-minute conflict that means you will miss your shift, there is no phone at the lot.  However, the day lot managers names and phone numbers are listed at the top of the signup calendar.  The number one rule when it comes to the calendar - IF YOU SIGN UP, SHOW UP!  It’s hard to plan if shifts look full on the calendar yet members don’t fulfill their commitment.

Greg also showed off Square, the point-of-sale transaction system.  Those men who will work as cashiers were able to see how to enter the different items: trees, wreathes, boughs, etc. and then total the costs up and handle either cash, check or credit card payments.  Taxes will be calculated for us, so no math required!
DRAWING
With $90 on the line and the seven of hearts the card to draw, there was tension in the room as both Phil Perington and Jack Kleinheksel attempted to draw the right card...to no avail. Money cups went to Pat Bush, Russ Paul, Chris Dunphy, Terry Shroyer, and
Ron Cisco. Dave Peck was wearing nametag, but wasn't lucky. Next... one hundred bucks
The meeting was adjourned and we all headed over to the tree lot.

ALL HANDS  ON DECK FOR SET UP OF TREE LOT

REPORT ON TREE LOT-Phil Perington
Friday and Saturday were 2 days filled with extradorinaiy effort and optimism by over 60 volunteers including the Denver Fire Department mustered by Steve Kady.  In previous years the Club has historically set up the lota couple of days day before Thanksgiving. However, this year Tree lot Director Tom Kramis decided the early bird really does get the worm. So,with assistance from many quarters,  The Tree Lot was set up a week early and with great effort and commitment. We now have 1500+ trees on site on our new secured parking lot layout complete with an efficient drive-through in lane in place. A big thank you to all who assisted in this 48 hour work project. Now, the only things left to do is pricing trees (Tamarac ladies on the job), drilling tree trunks, putting them on the racks, installing lights and display signs, maintaining our generator power, assuring daily sales crews, selling and fresh cutting trees, loading and tying them on top of vehicles, avoiding power tool incidents, restocking and keeping an optimistic state of mind. To keep everybody happy and in good spirits Ed Collins is in charge of food and beverage & Tom Hoch TV management. We are off to a great start. Let’s hit the finish line like the champions of youth and service to the community that we as Optimists deliver.

T H E O P T I M I S T C R E E D — Promise Yourself . . . To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for
anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
