A cool but pleasant last Friday in May and our greeters were the ever-present Al Gapuzan and his sidekick Frank Ross. One of our newer members, Jeff Cole, read the invocation, which reminded us to "Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
GUESTS
Mark Lonsdale who moved to Denver from the United Kingdom was the guest of President Casey Funk. We also were happy to see both Claire and John Young. John is a charter member of MSOC and the sponsor of many of the current members of our club.
We also welcomed members of the Tamarac Optimist Club All Star Brain Bowl team, who were here to defend their title after defeating the Mighty MSOC team in last year's Brain Bowl Competiton. Coach Cindy Eley. Mary Gelb, Nancy Kennedy, Jeiny Spampinato, Claire Merrill, Bonnie West and Linda Williams were all primed for a tough match.
INDUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS
President Casey Funk formally inducted 3 new members into our club. Bob Weinberger (sponsored by Craig Eley), Jeff Cole (sponsored by Steve Kady; and Patrick Morgan (sponsored by Casey Funk). All pledged to "give of my time and talents as generously as possible".
Just an early reminder from Frank Middleton to save the date of December 7, 2024 for the annual Holiday festivities, which will be held this year at the Valley Country Club in Aurora. Dinner will be served and there will be a cash bar. (Just remember "Pearl Harbor")

Phil Perington says "It's lottery time!". Buy as many tickets as you want. Only $20 each (Three for $50). Also, get tickets from Phil to sell to family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, merchants, members of other Optimist Clubs, Rotarians (the list is endless). We need to sell 550 tickets to cover expenses for payouts and make $5,000 for the Kids!!

Most Precious Blood
On Tuesday, May 28th, Joe Marci, Greg Young and Andy Towt attended a Super Citizen Presentation at the Most Precious Blood Elementary and Middle School. Two fifth grade students were recognized as Super Citizens as noted by Joe and photographed by Greg. Making this special is that both recipients' parents were present.
McMeen Elementary/Bradley Elementary
Mike White reported that he and Don Thomson had presented the Korsoski award at McMeen Elementary this past week.
Jon Wachter said that the Korsoski Award presentation at Bradley had gone well, with Jon and Andy Towt presenting the awards.
Bob Meyer reported that the fund raiser for Junior Golf was a great success and that our Prez won "Closest to the Pin". Bob needs help on June 13 at two different courses, one for girls and one for boys. One is at Meadow Hills Country Club, the other at Overland Golf Course. Check with Bob if you can make either of these events. (303-919-4532)
RIDE MS/ ROCKIES FUND RAISER
The Ride MS hydration station event in Longmont is approaching, and according to Michael Chavez, we need approximately 20 volunteers. The exact location will be announced later, but please mark your calendars for June 30th and expect to be there from 7:00 a.m. until at least noon. Additionally, Michael has informed us that "Trucker Hats" will be given away at the Rockies game on Sunday, June 16th. Since it's an early game, aim to arrive by 10:00 a.m. You'll receive complimentary tickets to the game, allowing you to enjoy an entire day at Coors Field on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Tamarac could also use some help on Saturday, June 22 handing out Bobble Heads. (Always a great adventure)
TREE LOT COMMITTEE
Vaughan Kendall gave a brief report on the meeting held this week. The decision was made to keep the old trailer for at least another season, but to have it inspected for safety before moving it again. Also to get an electrician to look at the wiring in the Santa House and get some new lights. They are looking forward to another record-breaking season.
BRAIN BOWL COMPETITION
The Tamarac Optimist Club members stormed the man cave to defend their title, following last year's recorded victory for their club. Craig Eley took on the role of Quiz Master and Question Author, with his wife Cindy adeptly handling the scorekeeping and Greg Young serving as the timekeeper. Despite the Tamarac team's thorough preparation, the formidable MSOC crew clinched the win by a narrow two-point margin in the intense competition. Below are the questions:
