On this not too warm May morning our greeters were Bob Avery and John Burnett, shown here greeting two of our members: Kent Gloor, one of our Charter Members(who joined the club in 1976) and Ryan Nuss, who joined the club in March of 1974!
Due to the recent sudden death (heart attack) of Todd Webster, President Casey read an invocation regarding living life to the fullest, while we are on this Earth. A celebration of life will be held at Fairmount Cemetery Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15. All are invited to attend. Though Todd had only recently joined our club, he was a valued member. Please keep his wife, Miriam in your prayers.
GUESTSOur guest today was Bob Holverson, who recently moved back to Denver after working for a number of years in Southern California (where it never rains). Bob and his wife moved back to be nearer his grandchildren and wants to get help out in his new community. Bob is a close neighbor of both John Burnett and Tom Overton. Nice going Tom.

RESPECT FOR LAW
Since 1965, Respect for Law has been one of the Purposes of Optimist International. What we do for youth, the police do for the whole community - Serve and Protect. In the words of Craig Eley, "without law, there is anarchy". Thanks to Steve Kady for arranging for MSOC to honor a Denver police officer, in the presence of his Chief, Ron Thomas, His Commander , Joe Bell and his wife, Amy.
Konrad Krysiuk is a two-year veteran of the Denver Police force. Some think he talks with a South Texas drawl, but that is really his Polish accent, since Konrad is a recent arrival to the U.S.
Konrad and his patrol partner responded to a call of an assault on a female. When they arrived on scene, they were confronted by a suspect who was obviously on drugs and seemed to have superhuman strength. Konrad called for backup and two more officers arrived on the scene. Even with four officers involved, the suspect put up a good fight. In the process of subduing the suspect, the suspect bit off the tip of Konrad's finger. Fortunately, the finger was found a subsequently reattached. The suspect was finally taken down by the four officers and arrested. Even though he is new to the Denver Police force (and to this Country), Konrad is an exemplary officer and a credit to the force. Thanks to Konrad for all he does and keep up the good work!
DRAWING
The Three of Hearts was worth $50 today. Kevin Dempsey (having learned a lesson last week) chose not to draw and took a cup-o-money, as did Phil Perington, Bryce Slaby and Greg Holt.
Kevin's ticket was drawn again and, this time, he decided to draw a card. Too bad, Kevin!
Commander Joe Bell tried his luck, but was also unsuccessful. Robert Wardlaw was lucky enough to be wearing his nametag, but not lucky enough to draw the right card. Tune in next week for more high drama
