Shown below: Jon greeting Tamara Kirch, who was a great help at the tree lot and Tom Yagley greeting Kent Gloor, a charter member, and invaluable tree lot worker. President Larry asked Craig Eley to read the invocation. Craig recognized John Young as the author of this morning's inspiration, even though Craig wrote most of those regulary read.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
JUNIOR GOLF
Joe Marci announced that the Golf Exposition will be held at the Denver Convention Center, February 17-19. Those who work can get free admission to the event. Joe will be circulating a sign=up sheet.
ACHIEVING ACADEMIC SUCCESS
Al Gapuzan reminded us that there will be a meeting of volunteers for this event, immediately after the meeting on January 6. A few more volunteers are needed. Please let Al or Kent Gloor know if you can help with this new activity with TJ Students.
Tom Mauro presented President Larry with a Certificate of Recognition for all of the work that the club does with Hamilton Middle School. Tom said the present administration is extremely supporting of our work with Hamilton.
MEMBERSHIP
Frank Middleton asked all members to carry three "Free Breakfast" cards to give to prospective members. As an example, Frank asked one of our newest members, Allen Meyer to explain how his visit to the tree lot and subsequent joining of the club was precipitated by one of these cards. Allen is a recently retired general physician, who worked for Kaiser. Allen has 3 children and 4 grandchildren and was recruited by Andy Towt and Greg Young. His grandson, Matthew is on the path to Eagle Scout. (See below)
EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT
Bob Avery talked about the recent awards program for the thihs program, which recognizes top projects of those preparing for their advancement to the rank of Eagle Scout. Bob also talked about the fact that previous awards programs were initiated by Donlie Smith and were attended by as many as 500 people. Bob's goal is to rebuild this program to its former stature. Tom Yagley, also Commander of Post #1, said the American Legion also has an active interest in Boy Scouts and presents annual scholarships to deserving scouts.

Thomas D. Ankner Troop 62
Athletic Field Mural and Football Office Furnishing
This project involved the design and painting of a 95’ long and 7 ½’ high mural at the East High School athletic field to improve the aesthetic feel of the field. The field had only an unsightly wall with cracked paint at one end. Thomas surveyed all stakeholders of the High School, such as the students, teachers, and administrators so that there would be buy-in and enhance school pride and spirit. The mural depicts 27 different sports that East High sponsors. In addition, this project took on the task of upgrading the facilities of the football department with, tables, desks, couch file cabinets, and chairs. Thomas spent 304 hours of his own time for a total 804 hours before the project was complete. Over $14,000 was raised to complete the project through selling of donor bricks, restaurant donation nights and making numerous presentations to businesses for support.

T H E O P T I M I S T C R E E D — Promise Yourself . . . To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for
anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
