WHAT'S THE WORD?
THUNDERBIRD!
/Where do you find two of the most classic Ford Thunderbirds in the same parking lot, early on a Friday morning? At the American Legion Hall on Yale, when the Monaco South Optimist Club is meeting. These Beauties: a Black 1957 Thunderbird Convertible, owned by Eldon Strong and a blue 1955 model, owned by David Peck were on display at the meeting this morning. Beautiful cars and classics of Detroit automobile manufacturing!
Kevin Dempsey and Frank Middleton had their hands full as they ushered in the early morning risers of the Monaco South Optimist Club. Though they did a great job, our greeters for next week (Bill Litchfield and Craig Eley)will try to surpass them in the "Excellence in Greeting" category for the Guinness Book of Records.
Greg Young, with fond memories of 2007 when he was "The real President of Monaco South", filled in for Casey Funk, who was actually here last week. Greg did a great job of calling on Eldon Strong to read the invocation who reminded us to be "too strong for fear". Bob Avery and Greg Hurd participated through the magic of Zoom.
Tom Glazier pointed out the bread order forms for the Treasure House of Hope, which will be delivering the bread and a presentation at our meeting on September 6. Tom also gave everyone one last shot a purchasing raffle tickets before today's drawing.
Bryce Slaby asked members who might have floor plans for small house or such that the students in Nebraska, to who we have given more than $30,00 worth of tools, can put the tools to good use. See Bryce for specifics. (303-792-5224).
Mike White, speaking for a much shorter time than it would have taken Don Thomson (according to Mike) said that McMeen still has a need for all sorts of clothing, but that the police officers in Denver District Three were also working to help them out with backpacks and school supplies.
According to Robert Wardlaw, Principals of Super Citizen Schools are invited to breakfast on August 23. Although some may not be able to attend because school has already started, we anticipate a good turnout.
Tom Kramis, Master of the Christmas Tree Lot, explained that the main trailer we use has undergone and electrical inspection and an inspection of the undercarriage, wheels and suspension system and is ready to roll... to a new (cheaper) storage facility up north. New lights have also been purchased. It's almost Christmas!
Dick Nickloff and Al Gapuzan had lunch with John Young at his new residence. Others are invited to contact Clair to set up some time to spend with John. (303-692-8202)
CELEBRATION
Immediate Past President Larry Pulaski is in the process of putting together a luncheon at which we will recognize the achievements during Casey Funk's year and install Harry Fegley as President. The event will be held at the Meadow Hills Golf Club on September 28, beginning at 11:30 a.m.Save the Date!
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Kevin Dempsey has set-up a volunteer opportunity for 5 Monaco South Optimist Club members to participate in a Habitat for Humanity build at Augustana Lutheran at 5088 E. Dakota Avenue, Denver 80246. The build will take place on Saturday, October 5th from 8:50 AM to 4:30 PM. 45 minutes will be provided for lunch. No previous experience is needed.
Each volunteer will need to register here: https://vhub.at/HolyHammers. Please select the Saturday, October 5th New Construction: Augustana event. All participants must register online at least two weeks in advance. If you do not already have a Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver on-line account, the site will ask you to set-up your account first before registering for that event. Please fill in the required information and sign any waivers, etc. Registering will provide you with site, parking instructions, describe what to bring, etc.
o Habitat Metro Denver will send you a reminder approximately three weeks in advance. Two weeks before the build day, Habitat Metro Denver will allow other individuals to fill any unfilled spots.
o All participants must register themselves. Registering online ensures that participants accept the waiver and receive information about the day, what to bring, and the location of the project.
o All participants must arrive on time. There is a mandatory orientation and safety briefing at the beginning of the day. If volunteers miss this they will not be able to participate in the build day.
Please feel free to contact Kevin Dempsey at 303-699-1629 or kmdmpsy@aol.com with any questions or for more information. Thanks!
LOTTERY
This is a picture of Vaughn Kendall, winner of the$2,000 first prize in the 2024 MSOC Lottery. Vaughn is living proof that if you buy more tickets, you have a better chance to win, as he not only won the grand prize, but he also captured two of the ten $100 prizes. (He bought 60 tickets!)
Second place ticket was worth $1000 and went to Jessie Satirini, who was one of the many lucky winners who bought tickets from top salesman, Tom Glazier.
Congratulations to Phil Perington and Dan Rodriguez on another successful Lottery Campaign! Phil reports we raised $4500 to support our youth activities. In addition to Vaughn, 5 other club members won $100 each. Most of the non-member winners were tickets sold by Tom Glazier.
DRAWING
Phil Perington had some special prizes, in addition to the normal drawing for $40 (which nobody won).
Zeb Danesh won a replica of the Super Bowl 33 Championship Ring awarded to all Denver Broncos for their victory over the Atlantic Falcons. Phil also gave away a Super Bowl 33 cap, and a 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar. Thanks to all who bought and sold tickets, the Lotter was a great success!
Meetings will be held at the American Legion Hall 5400 E Yale Ave. While there be no two way communication, you may observe (and listen to) the meeting on Zoom
PLEASE NOTE: Some Friday meetings will be simulcast on Zoom in “listen and watch only” mode. All members are encouraged to attend the live meeting when possible.

T H E O P T I M I S T C R E E D — Promise Yourself . . . To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for
anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
