  • Vision Statement. Optimist International will be recognized worldwide as the premier volunteer organization that values all children and helps them develop to their full potential.
On a beautiful, clear last Friday in February, we are greeted by two snazzily dressed gentlemen: Andy Towt and Kevin Dempsey. (As a matter of record, this would not be the last Friday, if February wasn't limited to 28 days  You know the famous  poem "30 days has Septober, April June and Nowonder. All the rest eat peanut butter , except Grandma - she drives a ford!" (Well... maybe not that famous.)
Paul Stratton was asked to read this morning's invocation and did a wonderful job!

PRESIDENT'S NOTES
President Casey Funk, fresh home from his trip to Cambodia and, more specifically Angkor Wat, shared with us that the Buddhists who built the temple had stolen some tenets from the Optimist Creed, that it was a twenty-hour flight to Thailand, and thanked Tom Glazier and Karl Geil for assuming the President's duties while he was gone.
Bob Meyer reminded me us that it is time to gear up for "The Optimist" golf tournament. We will be sending 59 golfers to Florida this year and about $40,000 will be needed to cover the cost. To that end, a scramble tournament will be held at Meadow Hills Golf Course on May 22. So line up your foursome and dust off your clubs! Contact Bob for any details:
303-919-4532. Bob also said that he was trying to raise additional money from previous winners of the international tournament, some of whom are on the pro circuit and already are millionaires.

GIRL SCOUT COOKIES
Dick Nickloff thanked everyone for supporting his granddaughter in being one of the top sellers of Girl Scout Cookies and delivered the goodies to all who had ordered.

On Friday, February 23rd, 12 students ranging from second to fifth grade received Super Citizen Awards at Bradley Elementary. Jon Wachter made the presentations. The picture shows the student's teacher explaining why the recipient is a Super Citizen, and Jon and the Principal, along with the student's parents listening. (Reported by Andy Towt)

TREE LOT
In working at the Christmas Tree Lot, Denny Dressman observed that most of the customers were returning from previous years. Denny has developed a marketing campaign, aimed at attracting new customers. he presented it to the TLC and is hoping that his expertise in the newspaper business will increase the number of new customers.  Denny asked for a couple of volunteers to help him in initiating this innovative approach.

T H E O P T I M I S T C R E E D — Promise Yourself . . . To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for
anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
