President Casey Funk rings the bell promptly at 7. Craig Eley reads the invocation this morning recalling Bob Weinberger, recent new member he had sponsored, who passed away recently after joining our club. Craig then leads us in the pledge of allegiance.

Craig introduces his sister Marianne Bacon, who is visiting him from Hawaii, and is in town for a show. Randy Condit introduces Jay Shumacher who is running the slide show this morning.
PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Casey was absent from our meeting last week and was attending the Optimist International Convention in Niagara Falls, Canada. Casey reports that after 4 days of the convention, he believes that this place is the Happiest Place on earth. Casey recalls the test for emotional intelligence, and it had some interesting questions that got him to thinking, after scoring a 4 out of a possible 25. But he thinks he scored better than Larry Pulaski, who was also in attendance.Harry Fegley, incoming president, was also there along with Bill Morgan and George Buzick. Some procedurals were also discussed, he had a great time. Casey shows us a very nice Thank you Letter from Slavens, for the club’s donation of $750 for the Destination Imagination team.
Tamara Kirsch from the Tamarac Optimist Club thanked MSOC for the generous support of a school in Kenya.
Andy Towt, announces that the Dime A Day program is ongoing, and that he would be happy to take your check for 36.50 in support of the OI Foundation Dime-A-Day program.
Tom Glazier has 6 tickets for Tuesday’s game against the Brewers.

Michael Chavez says Sunday is the rest stop for the MS Ride. It’s 60 miles up there, carpool if you can. Michael needs help loading and unloading the gear needed to set up for the rest stop.
Bob Avery is sending out email solicitations for the upcoming MS Ride coming up at the end of this month, Jun 29 and 30th. Bob brought in many of the jerseys he has accumulated during his rides with the program and says Thank you to those who have volunteered and helped him throughout the years.
Tom Kramis announces he is glad to see Casey back. An order has been placed for Christmas Trees. Some members aren’t as excited about the upcoming season for the Tree Lot. Tom’s friend Emily is here again to solicit volunteers for the Fan Expo convention coming up. She is looking for help, 18 years old and up. Also, looking for volunteer captains to help organize the event. Emily’s father was a Mason and well known and liked in the community.
Jon Wachter has cards to hand out for potential guests who might be able to join us and become a member. The Scottish Festival coming up, Jon is looking for help to work for the gates.
Pat Bush is requesting budget estimates for next year's events from the individuals responsible. He needs these submitted by the end of July, please.

The Raffle Committee has determined beneficiaries of the Raffle profits shall receive contributions up to $500, excluding the J.O.I. District who will receive $1,000. Beneficiaries include new money for The Anchor Center for Blind Children and TJ Latin Club-$500 each. As an important note, O.I. will match $500 for any new Club programs. Our own Bradley J.O.I. Club will also receive a $500 contribution. As of 6/28 we have sold 275 tickets. This puts us halfway to our goal of 550 tickets. Thank you all for your energetic and loyal support. The drawing is August 16th and this year we are offering 3 tickets for $50. Individual tickets are $20. 1st place winner receives $2000, 2nd place $1000 and 20- 3rd place winners are each awarded $100. We are optimistic all tickets will sell and distributed. As a reminder, you can buy tickets for your favorite charity, family member, friend, or business entity.

Our own Randy Condit is here to tell us about the Golf Heritage Society. He got hooked on golf, the game as a teenager growing up near Wellshire Golf Course. He had various jobs working as a caddy, and washing clubs. Randy worked at Condit Exhibits during his professional career. Condit specializes in creating custom event and trade show booths, museum displays and exhibits, and pre-built event structures for clients around the globe. It was a great career and allowed his creative side to expand as every job or project was different. 3 years ago, Randy’s work with Condit Exhibits included an event at Cherry Hills. It was there he met John Elway. He found a set of clubs at Cherry Hills in an old storage room, with the name Dwight Eisenhower. Randy through this experience, met Bob Fletcher who had collected a treasure of clubs. Randy eventually became familiar with the Golf Heritage Society. The society has about 700 members who use the hickory clubs and play golf the way they did back in the days of Bobby Jones. Randy is wearing a black jacket which shows a sign of membership in this club. Randy passes around clubs that are used during these rounds. There are no numbers on these clubs, but they are named as their use.
The romance of golf and the values it holds include honesty, respect, integrity, understanding emotions. The Golf Heritage Society is set to play at the historic club in The Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina (Home of the 2024 U.S. Open) later this summer. Additionally, a trade show featuring a wide array of golf-related items will take place. Hickory clubs, known for their difficulty to master and shorter range compared to modern clubs, have been used by a select few players who have won all the major tournaments. Randy shows some of the paintings he has on display in his house and has really become hooked on the history of the game. Randy has various items stocked in his golf room, which is off limits to most. Randy tells us about a tool that Bobby Jones used that helped him with putting. Randy tells us about the hole in one Hickory club, each recipient receives an award. Jay Shumacher, tells us about a game called Midget Golf. Jay has some history of golf balls and shows us the variety of balls used way back when. Randy tells us that some of the golf balls found in the lake, at Cherry Hills, are inscribed, Mr. President, belonging to Dwight Eisenhower. Randy brought some balls that he has collected. Randy shows a picture of himself along with Arnold Palmer’s father’s tractor in Latrobe PA. Randy shows us a ceramic flask, the 19th hole, designed to hold whiskey. Many of the events have people dressing as they did back in the day. Hickory clubs are featured at Trade shows. Periodic fashion and Fellowship. Randy brought a lot items to show and present. Wellshire Golf Course was built back in the 1920’s, by a famous course designer, Donald Ross. Interesting presentation, thank you Randy.
