Another beautiful August day in our beautiful (and hot) state, which just had a birthday. Early risers were greeted by Gary Strowbridge and Karl Geil (shown here greeting Matt Dollarhide. Jake Baker read the invocation, reminding us that, in these troubled times, it is sometimes hard to "look at the sunny side of everything", but we will, nevertheless, "press on to the greater achievements of the future.
PRESIDENTS CORNER
Having safely returned from the smoking Northwest, where he was hiking with his family, President Casey Funk thanked Karl Geil for running last week's meeting. Casey also shared that he had victim of a scam when a check was stolen from the Postal Service and used to get a false ID by the perpetrator who used Casey's info, but with his picture.
Casey also mentioned that the Colorado/Wyoming District Convention would be held in Boulder on Saturday August 10, in Golden and that the MSOC Board of Directors will meet on August 12 to discuss the budget for next year and other pertinent business. Since the junior golfers were not able to visit us today, Casey declared it to be a "Camaraderie Day"!
SOUTH BY SOUTHEAST/LOTTERY
Phil Perrington reminded us of the South by Southeast event, at which our members will be handing out recruiting brochures to interested parties and helping to assist staff various jobs during the day. You can still sign up with Phil. We will be working with members of the Tamarac Optimist Club. Phil has 50 lottery tickets, which he will be taking to the convention next week.(He sold 40 at last year's convention). He still has a few to sell. See him before the drawing on August 16 if you want to win a prize of $2,000; $1,000; or $100.
BUDGET/FINANCE COMMITTEE
Treasurer Pat Bush says that he believes most requests for money for next year's activities are in and the Finance Committee will meet immediately after the regular Friday meeting on August 9
Greg Hurd gave a briefing on the current fire in Estes Park, mentioning that the grocery stores are all bare, that the Ponderosa Lodge was burned and that Glen Haven and other areas around Estes Park have been evacuated.
CLOTHING DRIVE
Both Jake Baker and Don Thomson reminded us that the immigrant students at Hamilton Middle School and McMeen Elementary School need all kinds of clothing. If you have any gently used clothes, especially children's sizes, bring them to the meeting and Jake and Don will make sure they get to the right place.

DRAWING
With only 13 cards left, the 8 of Diamonds would have netted the winner $20, if anyone could have drawn it..., but no one did. The owners of the first six numbers drawn all decided to go for a cup of money, which left the draw to Tom Mauro and Gary Strowbridge. Both drew diamond cards, but not the 8. Nor could Greg Young, who was wearing his nametag, but wasn't lucky! Better luck next week!
