OPTIMST INTERNATIONAL
  • Mission Statement. By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves.
  • Vision Statement. Optimist International will be recognized worldwide as the premier volunteer organization that values all children and helps them develop to their full potential.

On this beautiful, sunny Colorado Autumn morning, members were greeted by Commander Tom Yagley and Dick Nicklofff.
Greg Hurd drove all the way from Estes Park to read the invocation and lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Soon to be Past President, Larry Pulaski reported that the Board of Directors had met this past Tuesday with the following results:
  • Checks are being prepared for the various organizations within Thomas Jefferson High School that have asked for our support.
  • Reminder that the OI Foundation year closes out on September 30. If you want to get credit for a donation this year, get your check to Pat Bush before then. The OI Foundation is a 501(c)(3), which means your contribution is tax deductible.
  • Don't forget the Annual Celebration and installation of officers which will be held at the Rendezvous Restaurant (Heather Gardens on Saturday, September 30, beginning at 11:30. Price is $35/person. Guests are welcome.
  • Next week is 100% day, so be sure to show up. We will also have a visit by the OI Foundation President.

Michael Chavez thanked those who worked the Rockies game last week, earning $750 for the club. Michael also reminded us of the upcoming Bill Walters Thanksgiving dinner for the Boys and Girls Club.

John Youngquist

Tom Mauro announced that next week's speaker would be former East High School Principal, John Youngquist, who is running for Denver Public Schools Board of Education.

PROMISE YOURSELF

Harry Fegley shared the travails of his travel, which started out on a luxury train ride, the train crashed, and passengers had to be transferred to buses which also broke down. Talk to Harry for full details.(But don't use his travel agent.)

DUES ARE DUE

Pat Bush, Treasurer reminds us that dues are now due by September, in order to get a $5 discount. You can also pay online, on the club website, but no discount. Because Pat has been having some problems with the USPS, mail your check to: PO Box 371561, Denver CO 80237.

GRANDFATHER

Not to be outdone by Everett Gardner (see last GUMS), Bob Avery announced the birth of Lincoln Robert Avery on July 4, in London England. Bob thought it ironic that an American with the name of a US President would be born in England on July 4.

ONE MILLION DOLLARS
According to Tom Mauro, now is the time to get your business card in the upcoming revision of the Directory and get a guaranteed $1,000,000 increase in your business. Check with Tom or Craig Eley. Also, now is the time to update your photo, so it actually resembles your current face.

FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS
Floral Embrace™

Greg Young is coordinating the delivery of flowers donated by the Denver Art Museum to various senior citizen organizations.
Because of the size of some of the deliveries, Greg suggested that it would require an SUV or van to carry the flowers. If you are interested, please contact Greg at 303-886-1110 or e-mail:
 gndyoung@comcast.net

HAPPY BUCKS
Pat Bush collected Happy Bucks for Childhood Cancer and raised $77.50 for the day, which brings us to almost $250 for this year's contribution.

DRAWING

Only four cards left in the deck. How hard could it be to draw the Jack of Clubs. Well, Tom Mauro and Mike White tried, but couldn't do it, which forced Randy Bruns, Kent Gloor, Michael Chavez, Bob Avery, Frank Middleton and Matt Nelson to take a cup-o-money.
Our illustrious President pulled Bill Litchfield's name from the jar, Bill was wearing his name tag and...lo and behold he was $80 richer! Congratulations to Bill.
We closed the meeting with the Creed. Go forth in Optimism!

T H E O P T I M I S T C R E E D — Promise Yourself . . . To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for
anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
